EPA is ready to deal with cuts to its core funding, Deputy Administrator Janet McCabe told agency employees Monday.
EPA will receive close to $9.2 billion in fiscal 2024 under spending legislation that passed Congress last week. That slashes nearly $1 billion from its current budget, which could result in some belt-tightening around the agency that has grown during the Biden administration.
McCabe said in an internal email obtained by E&E News that senior leaders, including Administrator Michael Regan and herself, as well as the Office of Chief Financial Officer, “will dive into the budget” to come up with the agency’s operating plan.
“While no one likes to have a smaller budget than they had last year, the budget team in OCFO has been preparing for this scenario,” McCabe said.
