Democratic lawmakers are introducing new transmission legislation Wednesday, adding to the mix of bills aiming to build out and green the grid.

Sens. Peter Welch (D-Vt.) and Angus King (I-Maine) say the “Advancing Grid-Enhancing Technologies Act” would bolster the grid’s capacity to carry energy from renewables.

“We’re at a crucial turning point in our work to achieve a clean energy transition,” Welch said in a statement, “and meeting this moment requires new investments in clean energy technologies that strengthen the capacity of our transmission system.”

The bill would require energy regulators to encourage developers to invest in technologies that increase renewable power on the grid, Welch said in a release accompanying the bill, which was first shared with E&E News.
