Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said she isn’t certain that a future Republican president and Congress would repeal President Joe Biden’s landmark climate law now that Americans are feeling its benefits.
In an appearance Monday in Miami Beach, Florida, Granholm said her staff is working to make sure that the billions of dollars in grants and tax credits in 2022’s Inflation Reduction Act are deployed quickly to insulate it from future attacks.
“This is part of the strategy we’ve been obsessed with at the Department of Energy: deploy, deploy, deploy. Deploy, deploy, deploy,” Granholm said at the Aspen Ideas: Climate conference. “We’ve got to get this out, as much as possible, as fast as we possibly can, because we want it to stick.”
Her comments echoed recent statements by John Podesta, Biden’s newly appointed senior adviser for international climate policy. He said last week that provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act would be hard to roll back as businesses rely on the law’s tax credits.
