President Joe Biden’s fiscal 2025 budget plan released Monday would continue investments in clean energy development, but some of its numbers are more modest than last year’s request or would implement cuts.
The Department of Energy would get $51.4 billion, about $1.15 billion more than the fiscal 2024 levels recently passed by Congress Friday but about $600 million less than what the White House proposed last year.
The budget plan includes $10.6 billion for a variety of climate and clean energy research, development, demonstration and deployment programs. However, that’s less ambitious than the nearly $12 billion included in Biden’s 2024 budget request.
The White House said its plan would build “on the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act; invest in innovation for the energy economy; advance basic research and scientific infrastructure … and support the nation’s energy and environmental justice goals.”
