The Energy Department will send another $425 million in infrastructure funds to coal communities across the country to help strengthen clean energy manufacturing and reduce industrial emissions, the department announced Friday.

The funding is part of the Biden administration’s broader effort to strengthen critical U.S. supply chains, while providing an economic boost to coal communities adversely impacted by the transition away from fossil fuels.

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm was in Colorado on Friday to announce the funding opportunity.
