The White House unveiled a fiscal 2025 budget Monday that offers a sneak peak at President Joe Biden’s energy wish list for a second term, from boosting renewables deployment and maintaining the country’s emergency oil stockpile to curbing greenhouse gas emissions.
While much of the $7.3 trillion proposal is unlikely to be enacted by a divided Congress, the blueprint shows the effects of the Inflation Reduction Act and 2021 bipartisan infrastructure law on administration planning, as well as Biden’s push to deploy low-carbon energy and advance technologies such as carbon dioxide removal.
At the same time, the budget request would reduce funding from current levels for some programs, including carbon capture research and the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy, which has long received bipartisan support and backs emerging technologies.
